She made me beautiful dresses on throughout my teen years and young adult life. Then, I was dying eggs with my girls and getting their Easter baskets ready. ![]() Mother was an expert seamstress, and we had the fanciest, prettiest dresses in town. I remember on more than one Easter, I had a dress that matched my daughters dresses. Those were the Kennedy years, when the A-line dresses were in style, and we also had the little roll back brim hats just like Jackie wore. Life was so very different then. I am amazed when I think back to those days and the changes that have taken place since that time. Little girls, teens and women of all ages still enjoy dressing up I'm sure for Easter Sunday though. The new dress is a symbol of spring, of new beginnings. When my girls were little, we always had an Easter "bonnet". Later, little girls wore fancy bows in their hair, as my last little girl did. Hats or "bonnets" were out of style for a while. ![]() grew up, and remain, Easter is much the same as always. There are egg hunts still, but most of the time instead of doing it in the fancy dresses and little suits for the boys, they have the egg hunt on Saturday in their play clothes. When I went to Elementary school here, we had an egg hunt at school on the Friday before Easter, I guess that would not be allowed today. There also used to be an egg hunt in the city park for any children who wanted to attend. I live in a small town and many of us children went to the park to hunt eggs, and swing in the huge swings they had there.
Easter not only signifies new life in Christ, but new life in everything. We see bright new green leaves opening on the trees and in our area, beautiful azaleas, tulips, dogwoods, daffodils, lilies, just too many flowers to name, blooming and the air fragrant with their scents. I eagerly anticipate Easter this year as every year, and all the joy it brings. The next page gives some legends of Easter, of the dogwood and Easter lily. ![]()
