I Pledge Allegiance to the flag
of the United States of America
and to the Republic for which it stands,
one Nation under God, indivisible,
with liberty and justice for all.

Memorial Park on the 4th

Memorial Park ~ My Hometown America


I find it extremely disturbing that our
school children today and for the past several
years, are not being taught the Pledge of
Allegiance. They don't repeat this pledge
daily as we did when I was in school,
just as the Bible is no longer a part of
the classroom. Our children are finishing school
I discovered, not knowing the words to the
Star Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful
nor God Bless America until taught at home.
It had never occurred to me that I was responsible
for seeing that my children knew these things. I
learned them at an early age in the classroom.
My school years were long ago, but in those days,
the day began with a pledge of allegiance to the flag.
This is something that needs to be restored if we
want our children to grow into adults who respect
our country and those who fought for our freedom.
What can we expect for this nation's future, if our
children are not being taught to respect the flag,
America and all it stands for. Perhaps, even some
of the violence in schools today could be avoided
if these values of years past were restored. This
Independence Day or, as we more commonly refer to it,
4th of July, let's make sure our children know why we
are celebrating, having fireworks and eating homemade
ice cream, barbecue and other goodies normally
enjoyed on this day.
