The following words are engraved
on one side of the base, barely
legible after these many years.

On Fame's Eternal Camping Ground
Their Silent Tents Are Spread
And Glory Guards With Solemn Round
The Bivouac Of The Dead

Confederate Memorial Day

My site to honor confederate veterans is not
written to promote any groups who stir up trouble
or promote hatred between the races. Our nation
is made up of people who came together for the cause
of freedom, from many countries around the world.
The only "natural" American's are "indians" or today,
we say "Native Americans". I am very proud
to carry the blood of the Cherokee (Creek) in my veins.
My ancestry is heavy with Scottish blood,(Wallace, my
Father's family), some Irish, English and Dutch or
German are in my family lines. We are now researching
our genealogy trying to find exactly "who" we are. Our
ancestors came to this land, fought and died for
freedom, I would deny it to no one who lives lawfully.

Here in the south, we like to honor those who fought so
valiantly for "our right to freedom" during the war between
the United States and the Confederate States of America.
These men fought and died for a cause they believed in
just as other men in other wars. It was not a war over
slavery as many believe, but a war over "states rights",
freedom from federal tyranny. I had a GreatGreatGrandfather
fight in this war and his son, my GreatGrandfather too, plus
his brothers and a few of their sons even though they, in some
cases were not old enough to "go to war". My own Grandfather
was born just a year before the war began. His Mother was left
a widow with 3 little boys to raise on her own, after this
terrible war. They had owned land, not a huge plantation,
but were landowners. My GreatGrandfather was killed
in the "war of northern aggression". There was nothing "civil"
about brother fighting brother or neighbor against neighbor as
happened in many states along the Mason/Dixon line.
My Grandmother was a child, but remembered having
to bury or hide in some way, the silver and other nice items
in the home hoping to have something after the war was over.
Food also, so they would have something to eat. The soldiers
took it all in many cases. It is only fair that I honor their memory
and that of others, who lost their lives and lands as a result.
This is a list of my ancestors known at this time, who fought
and some died in this war: All listed here are my Mother's family.

in many a bloody fray.
Here shall this shaft your glory tell
as ages drift away.
