Greetings

This page dedicated to:
Inez and Ruth, my Mother
and my Mother in law.

My Mother loved flowers and she especially
loved bright colored flowers. Azaleas are
plentiful in our part of the country and she
loved them. My Mother-in-law loved them too.
Both are being honored on my page for Mothers Day.
My Mother was loving, caring and was there doing
all she could to help me as I grew up, and as
an adult. I wish she were still here to see the
page when it is finished. I know she would love
it for most of the words here were found in her
scrapbook. Not her words, but words and writings
she loved. My Mother-in-law would have liked it
as well. If she had anything like my Mom's book,
I do not have it, so I don't have favorite words of
her's. She was a farmer's wife and the best
Mother a girl could hope to get for an 'in-law'. My
Mother and our family lived in town, but she grew
up on a farm and always loved to grow things. I know
both of these women would be happy with this.

{I found the following in Mother's scrapbook.
It is one she signed her name on as if to say, it's "me".
Today, I can say it is "me". I find I grow more like
my Mother every year.}

Keep me from the fatal habit of thinking
that I must say something on every subject
and on every occasion.

Release me from craving to straighten
out everybody's affairs.

Make me thoughtful but not moody;
helpful but not bossy. With my vast store
of wisdom, it seems a pity not to use it
all--but Thou knowest, Lord, that
I want a few friends at the end.

Keep my mind from the recital of endless
details - give me wings to get to the point.

Seal my lips on my aches and pains.
They are increasing and love of
rehearsing them is becoming sweeter
as the years go by.

I dare not ask for grace enough to enjoy
the tales of others but help me to
enjoy them with patience.

I dare not ask for improved memory but
a growing humility and lessening cocksureness
when my memory seems to clash
with the memory of others.

Teach me the glorious lesson that
occasionally I may be mistaken.

Give me the ability to see good things
in unexpected places and talents in
unexpected people. Give me the
grace to tell them so.

She had done the same with this one
sentence:

"About all I've ever done with my life is
wait for something to be reduced 50 percent."

{This below, she had marked "I wish for my children".}

A Wish

May you have enough happiness to
keep you sweet;
enough trials to keep you strong;
enough sorrow to keep you human;
enough hope to keep you happy;
enough failure to keep you humble;
enough success to keep you eager;
enough friends to give you comfort;
enough faith and courage in yourself,
your business and your country
to banish depression;
enough wealth to meet your needs;
enough determination to make each day a
better day than yesterday.
This is my wish for you today, and every day.

The poem below is marked in her scrapbook as
"one of my favorite poems".

I Looked for God

I looked for God to be revealed. I thought,
Now will some wondrous miracle be wrought;
Some mystic sign will surely now appear
To prove beyond a doubt that God is near.

But life went on in much the usual way;
Familiar homely tasks absorbed each day.
No mystical experience was mine;
No evidence of miracle divine.

But, gradually, with heart alert to see,
His signs in simple things were shown to me.
I saw Him in my house, fresh-cleaned and bright;
I saw Him in my sleeping child at night.

I felt Him kneel beside me in my garden;
At close of day I knew His peace and pardon.
I looked for God and found Him all about--
No miracle - - just peace replacing doubt.

The following verses are from Mother's Day
cards, sent to my Mother years ago.
The first from me and the other two
from her granddaughters as they grew up.

Mother

Mother means so many things ---
It means a heart of gold,
A smile that's warm and tender
In a world that's sometimes cold,
It means a life of sacrifice,
A million thankless tasks,
It means someone who always gives
But seldom ever asks,
It means the perfect someone
To tell your troubles to,
It means so many lovely things
For, Mother - - - it means you!

A Memory is a Treasure

A memory is a special treasure
Which endures and gives us pleasure,
One we cherish always, for we know--
Recalling certain times and places,
Tender moments, smiling faces,
Always brings our hearts a warming glow.
Though time may pass, a memory stays,
Reminding us of happy days,
And of the people who have touched our lives--
Of favors done, and love expressed,
Of those who've stood above the rest,
A memory is a treasure that survives.
"Amanda Bradley"

Mother

You cheered my accomplishments,
and gave me a sense of myself...
You spoke of life's problems,
and gave me a sense of others...
You showed me how to do things,
and gave me a sense of pride...
you told wonderful family stories,
and gave me a sense of belonging.
So much of what I am
is because of you.
